AMS, or acute mountain sickness, is a debilitating and sometimes fatal occurrence for those whose travels take them to higher altitudes.  There are three stages to the illness ranging from mild to severe.  Although there is significant research in this field many people are still unaware of the many factors that can prevent AMS.

It is the goal of Extreme Altitude Medical Training (Extremeamt) to provide altitude education to climbing professionals in the Khumbu region of Nepal at no cost.  This education will enable graduates to predict, prevent, and if necessary treat early symptoms of AMS before they become moderate to severe.

Our educational experiences both in Nepal and Tanzania* have clearly proven the worth of this program.

* Tanzanian classes were initiated by Tusker Trails - founders of applying WFR techniques for guides on Kilimanjaro.
