The Sponsors Florence and Roger
Kehr Florence and Roger Kehr met Apa Sherpa in Salt Lake City, UT during an Outdoor Retailer Convention. This relationship grew and with Roger's prior experience with the Wilderness First Responder course in Kilimanjaro it became a natural progression to bring the African experience to the Khumbu. Kehr conferred with Dr. Kami Temba in Khunde, Nepal and with Susan Purvis, lead instructor for WMA's WFR course to ascertain their interest. With Kami and Sue on board all that was left was to pick the first 20 attendees for the course. With his usual understated brilliance Apa chose a wide variety of mountaineers from many villages. This would not only spread word of the course for future years but would also spread the benefit of the medical knowledge the attendees would receive. The Kehr's have already committed to a second Extreme Altitude Medical Training course in Khunde in the fall of 2006. It is their fervent hope to encourage others to join their sponsorship in increasing the number of attendees and in supplying more medical equipment to the Khumbu region for trekking and expedition safety.
Sincere thanks must be extended to Eddie Frank, owner of Tusker Trails, for his visionary application of WFR education for the guides on Tanzania. Copyright 2005 Digitaltitude.com - all rights reserved |
